Wedding cards

So far this year I have been to four weddings! that is more than I have been to in my life. This obviously was a great excuses to make some wedding cards. They were all made by making some white felt with fabric and glitter in the mix which was mounted on some angelina fibres. Some simple felting fun!.

Psychedelic Felt Trip

I brought a packet of assorted coloured merino tops all mixed together, so I set about sorting them in to a pretty colour wheel, just to satisfy the sorter in me! Awwww look at the array of bright colours.
Coloured merino tops.
I then mixed them all back together creating a chaotic multicoloured fiber mess. Which was fun!
Multicoloured mess!

What I ended up with was truly psychedelic! This psychedelic felt trip has been used to create a Mothers day card and Rowan's rocket birthday card.

Snowflake Christmas cards

I know that this is a tad late but here is what I did to make my Christmas cards last year.

Finished Christmas card.
When I got my Christmas decorations out I discovered a felt garland, inspiration hit! hay floating snowflake cards. This led to the enjoying task of rummaging through supplies to see what I had to add to the wool tops to make my felt glistening and .... well, snowflaky.

Snowy looking pre-felted mess!
I used angelina fibers, snowflake confetti, and white fabric all randomly thrown together. To create this......

Finished felt
Then on to the slightly annoying job as it is fiddly of cutting out snowflakes, threading them and making them float from a card. I made every card different, either different dark coloured card or glitter.

Felted leaf card

Felted Leaf Card
I was sneakily looking at leaf picture at work to find the right one to make into felt, when my colleague looked at me baffled and asked me what I was doing.  Apparently it is expected to look up news and hotels at work but looking at leaf pictures is not!. Anyway, here is a lovely felted leaf card which has been made to celebrate Adam's birthday sorry its 17 days late.

Felted flower badges

You see handmade felt flowers all over the market stores, so I thought I would make some of my own.
I made two different coloured felt as you can see in the picture below. So that I could create a variety of flowers by layering the felt, some are different colours some are the same.
I used a plastic cup to draw around to create the circles and the cut away to create petals, all of them were slightly different. I then sewed on beads and sequins to create the center of the flower. I used hot glue to attach a brooch bar to make the badges, though they could just as easily have been hair clips or hair bobbles.

Carrot cake cupcakes.

This recipy was taken from Nigella Lawson's How to be a Domestic Godess cook book. As my friend is so obsessed by carrot cake I felt I should try these. These have a few different ingredients, including orange and lemon zest and some lemon juice in the icing, in comparison to Humminbird recipy I followed in my previouse post to make a Carrot cake.

These turned out lovely, and my friend couldn't wait to taste them.  One was taken straight of the baking tray.
We and my work colegues were all in agreement that these turned out better than the cake. Though I have bought a new cake tin to try out the carrot cake again with the correct proportions. The icing was defiantly yummy to, I'm not a huge fan of icing but the lemon juice added to this one made it good. .... bring on the came making.

Knapweed Brooch

This was based on a picture I took whilst on holiday in the Cotswolds in Autumn. The pin is based on the bud of the Knapweed and the base on the flower. It took about twelve workshops to complete and is my most labered silver project yet.

Finished Brooch

This was also my introduction to etching. Which is a process of creating an embossed image, in this instance it was created on to steal and because steal is harder that silver this etching can be used over and over. After I had picked the design I drew it on to a sheet of steal with nail polish, yep nail polish polish! This was then submerged into salt water and connected up to a battery for about 15 minutes and hay ho, etching of a Knapweed.

This was then rolled on to the silver, hours were then spent tidying my silver up before it was eventually oxidised a process to encourage the natural effects of oxygen on silver and make the design stand out more. Something that I was very scared about, top tip from my tutor was don't let the oxidising solution touch your skin, humm. Needless to say I payed way to much attention to were the solution was going on my silver that my hands were a tad blacked by the end.
